Early literacy is what your child knows about reading and writing before he or she actually learns how to read and write. Children are born ready to read, and you provide the opportunities for learning through everyday experiences--including talking, reading, singing, writing and playing. This kit contains a guide and four books that focus on the early literacy practice of talking. Talking provides ongoing experience with oral language and allows children to develop the background knowledge about the world that leads to greater comprehension of the texts they encounter. The books in this kit encourage conversations, foster language play, and model creative adult-child dialog.
